It’s no secret that German beer is one of my favourite’s, from a lovely crisp ABK Hell to a Maisel’s Weisse.
Well today I’m opening a Augustiner Brau Munchen Edelstoff as its a new product in the store and why not, its Friday..
Like most lagers its a nice golden colour, and was quite surprised by head fading quite quickly, I’m not an expert poursmith “yes a person who pours beers perfect” so a diminishing head helps you keep the facial hair free of beer foam. It has a nice heavy hit on the taste buds and the mouth certainly knows your drinking something that has hints of malty grassy hops, a slight hint of lemon hits too and leaves a bitter dry finish which nicely invites you to take another gulp.
Like most German beers the hit on the taste buds is heavy, you feel like your drinking something with substance, more of a thickish pint as opposed to some weak watery lagers we are used to from pulls in the UK.
The brewer has been about since 1328, so expect they know how to brew good beer, found that the taste did subside after a few minutes so your not hanging around with a malty taste in your mouth for too long.
In all I would buy again, and while im at it may as well see if theres any Maisel’s Weisse to be found 🙂
