It’s that time of year when only a warming stout will do and my choice this weekend is Alright Mate from top brewery DEYA Brewing Company.
Carefully selected glass and perfect temperature aquired for pouring this hotly anticipated stout in the cosy setting of my lounge!
Most of the stouts I have drunk lately are heavy, lactose laden and Imperial but this stout offers none of those things. This is a lovely change, lighter than a stout, more a porter mouthfeel. The head is thin but has a wonderful aroma of maple and pecans. The use of Bramling and Centennial hops adds to the body and the fruity finish, highlighting the maple syrup. Im not missing the lactose injection at all with this drink, it still has all the guts of a pastry stout.
None of the beers i’ve tried from DEYA have been disappointing. They offer a unique larger can, vegan, unfiltered and unpastuerized contents all wrapped up in fabulously designed cans from artist Thom Hobson.
Since 2015 the company has rapidly gained a huge following and collaborated with other great craft brewers such as Northern Monk and Tiny Rebel. This brewery doesn’t rely on their name, it clearly relies on the quality.
As this stout is lighter than the 7.5% it suggests it would be quite easy to have another but alas i will have to wait until next week when I will buy two instead. A big thumbs up DEYA .
